Private bathrooms of Central Europe: exhibits and records

The bathroom museum is currently undergoing reconstruction: it is scheduled to reopen in March 2015, with an updated concept and fresh presentations. A “construction site” museum has been created in collaboration with Arkas Förstner of fön,design_. The bathroom furnishings are stacked up on wooden pallets, while large drawings clearly indicate the current status of the collection. Prior to the reopening, visitors will have numerous opportunities to participate in the redesign, in terms of its content and with their own personal finds.

Themes to look forward to this autumn:

  • Europe's private bathing culture, dating from the 19th century through to the seventies, eighties and nineties of the 20th century
  • Time tunnel through the bathroom: from the Black Forest farm with the well in front of the door through to Philippe Starck's designer bathroom from the 1990s
  • Design and accessories that were characteristic of the bathroom and its era

How you can participate:

We are looking for bathroom items and accessories from the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s which were standard features in bathrooms of that time. Descriptive texts are on display and these can be supplemented and edited using red pen.
