The cruise ship of cruise ships is riding a new wave
The world of cruise ships is changing: the exclusive finish of the floating luxury hotel conceals an ever increasing amount of environmental technology. At the same time, old conventions are disembarking. On the Norwegian Epic, a new and particularly luxurious cruise ship, this means: 21 speciality restaurants but no dress code. Instead, there is a water slide and a circus tent! Hansgrohe SE contributed to the sustainability and comfort with its products, which offer ultimate bathroom comfort and help conserve resources.
Delivered to the shipping company NCL in July 2010, the Norwegian Epic sets new standards in many respects: with a record-breaking length of 329 metres, it has a 4,100 passenger capacity. The ice bar is the only bar on the high seas in which cool drinks are served at minus eight degrees. The 61-metre water slide is the world’s largest slide on a ship. And the circus tent quakes during the evening ‘Cirque Dreams® and Dinner’ show and the performances of the Blue Man Group, which can be only enjoyed at sea on board the Norwegian Epic.
All this is the perfect setting for a casual on-board style that does away with the usual images of cruises – ‘freestyle cruising’ in the words of the shipping company. The floor plans of the balcony cabins are also unusual: they have elegant, sweeping walls. When planning the bathrooms and mixers, Hansgrohe was involved with its expertise in design and functionality.
The pure design language of the Axor Starck Classic basin mixer represents the high standards of the luxury ship in 125 suites. The Raindance EcoSmart hand showers efficiently use energy and fresh water in 1,700 cabins without foregoing any comfort. The basin mixers from the Talis S range also offer the benefit of Hansgrohe EcoSmart technology with a restricted water flow of up to five litres per minute. This vital resource is particularly valuable on board as it is laborious to transport.
